Starfall #11

It’s been a rough weekend. I got T-boned in my wife’s little Scion IQ. My shoulder is all fucked up, but other than this, no one was hurt. Insurance has covered everything, including a rental, so at least I don’t have to take any time off of my horrible sandwich-delivery job.

By rights, the car wreck ought to have been the worst of it. Nope. My wife’s grandmother died today, giving into a cancer for which she’d refused treatment.

I am okay (shoulder aside). My wife is not. I don’t really know how to console her. They were incredibly close (my wife and her grandmother – not my wife and my shoulder).

Her grandmother lived with us for a while. She was a hard woman to get along with. She once had me drive her all over town looking for red pencils, because she wanted to convert her copy of the bible into a red-letter bible. Wal-Mart had red pencils, but they had too many. She didn’t want the billion-pack. She wanted 2. The next place I took her to had red pencils, but they were packaged with other colors and that was no good either. I think we went to four or five places trying to find a 2-pack of red pencils before she asked me to take her to a lumber yard, because she was CERTAIN that a lumberyard would have red pencils. If I had take her to a lumber yard, I would have left her there, too.

I told my wife today that everything would be okay. She said back to me, “No, it won’t. She’s gone.”

I wish I had more than platitudes for her.

Issue 2 News

In better news, Issue #2 is at the printer and should be out-bound to our Kickstarter backers in short order. It’s been a long wait, largely because 2018 and 2019 just shit on me, every month, back-to-back and holy shit I am worse for wear for it. But there’s light at the tunnel’s end. Whether that light is from an on-coming train or not remains to be seen.
